How are varnishes produced? We are an artisan company that continues in Spilimbergo, the homeland of mosaics, using the ancient Murano family tradition born in 1926. Our production is done entirely by hand, without the aid of machinery, from the preparation of the glass until its final cut.
What material are the tiles made of, are they painted stones?
The tiles are made of opaque glass and are not painted.
The term varnish is used to distinguish transparent glass from opaque glass.
Using the same melting furnaces as Murano, varnishes arise from a fusion, which is made up of powdered minerals, such as silica, lime carbonate, sodium carbonate and other components with the addition of opacifying dyes.
What is porous and sanded varnish?
To reproduce the tiles of Byzantine mosaics, and to create the effect of aging, silica glass is added to the tiles. These varnishes are made-to-order only.
Why are complexions so expensive?
They are produced with the addition of special glass, such as the "body" and the "soul" and the "ruby". The latter has been manufactured with the addition of pure gold.
Do you only carry sample colours?
No, about 1,500 colours are available in various shades and depths in our warehouses.
Can you buy a sample?
Yes, the samples of 95 colours are on sale. The cost will be reimbursed (excluding shipping costs) with a first order of over € 100.00, excluding VAT, while the photo gallery is free.
Do you offer made-to-order?
Yes, we also manufacture samples supplied by our customers, for example, for restorations of old mosaics. The minimum quantity and the possibility of manufacturing is established after viewing the material to be reproduced.
After choosing the colours, can the material be collected immediately?
Yes, if the material is in plate and/or if the colours have already been cut, according to our work needs. If the colours need to be cut, then we will confirm their collection with you.
I am a hobbyist and I need many colours but in small quantities. Is this possible?
Yes, we have ready-made mixtures in packs of one kilogram, with five colours in shades that range from light to dark, for hobbyists. The price list of these shades contains the numbers that correspond to the catalogue.
Do you sell quantities that are fewer than one kilogram?
Yes, both in plate and cut with a 20% increase on the listed price.
